Your tools are what get you through everyday. Some tools will level up and become more useful when you use them enough (those that do have 3 different stages of power), and some don't. You may only get some for a certain reason, or you may start out with them. Who knows? Why, Harvest Moon Zero does!

Watering Can - The watering can waters your crops so you don't have to! Okay, okay, so you have to use the watering can. . .anyway, the point is that you should water your crops every day, as well as flowers or whatever. A level 1 can can hold 30 uses, 2 can hold 50 uses, and 3 can hold 80 uses. Once this tool levels up, if you hold the B button longer, the tool will charge up, and it will water 3 squares to your front and diagonals if it is a level 2, and if it is a level 3 it will water 9 squares in front of you and to your diagonals.

Axe - The axe is used to break up stumps into lumber (and hurt your animals if you are not careful), and it also has 3 level-ups. The higher the level, the longer you hold the button, and the less swings you take. Level 1 takes 6 swings to break a stump to lumber, level 2 takes 2 swings, and level 3 takes 1 swing.

Hammer - The hammer is used to flatten out tilled soil, break rocks, and break already broken fences. You can also level up the hammer. At level 1 it takes 6 swings to break a boulder (BIG rock), at level 2 it takes 2 swings, and at 3 it takes 1 swing.

Sickle - The sickle is the tool you use to cut grass or weeds (or stab your animals again if you aren't careful). This tool also levels up. At level 1, you cut the patch in front of you. At level 2, it will cut a patch in from of you and the 2 patches to your diagonals, and at level 3, it cuts a total of 9 squares, 8 all around you, and the one you are standing on.

Hoe - You use the hoe to till the soil on your farm and in your greenhouse. You must till the soil before you can plant anything there. A level 1 hoe will till 1 square in front of you, a level 2 hoe will till 3 squares in front of you (not like the others, they are in a VERTICAL line), and a level 3 how tills a whopping 6 squares directly in front of you.

Brush - You do not start out with the brush: You have to buy it at Rick's shop for 600G. Now that may not seem like a lot. . .once you have a lot of money. In the beginning of the game, this tool is very helpful, and very expensive. You use the brush to keep your animals happy, and to keep your horse happy. No, sorry, you cannot brush your dog.

Milker - The cow milker is also available at Rick's shop (once you have a cow). You can't milk a cow without it. This tool is pretty expensive, but not much of a problem if you are at the end of your first year.

Shears - The shears are used to collect wool from your sheep. You can't collect wool without shears. In real life you can. . .but that is a very painful thought. . .the shears are also expensive, but like the milker, isn't too much of a problem, and once you have it (and a sheep), it will make up for itself in about 2 weeks. You get the shears at Rick's Tool Shop, and it only appears in shop once you have bought a sheep.

Fishing Rod - The fishing rod isn't bought (yay!), but then again you don't start with it, either (awww). You have to go talk to the fisherman by the Moon Mountain Spring to get it. Once you have it, put it in your B Button tool and go up to (a) the mountain river (b) the mountain springs (c) the beach and fish! . . .I had a fish market once. . .I made like over 1000G everyday for a month on fish alone during year 1. . .it's a good idea! But the best fishing is in the morning, so if you have a wife, stick to the crops.

Empty Bottle - The bottle is bought from Rick, but not at his everyday tool shop. No, you have to go and buy it from him at the Flower Festival, because it only appears there and never in the shop. But if you missed it, don't worry, it will appear there every year until you buy it. If you want to fill the bottle with water or whatever, go up to the water/whatever and press B. You can also buy the Potion Shop's Potions. You don't need the bottle to have a drink at the bar, though.
