When in Harvest Moon 64 you find yourselves over your head while finding your virtual soul mate. Well first you have to consider who you want, if you can fit buying her stuff into the budget, if you can get her stuff she likes all year around, and much much more.
The ranks are as follows:
White - You are strangers. You don't know much about eachother, but you aren't enemies, either.
Blue - You're friends. You usually come over every now and then.
Green - You're flirting. Basically, you like eachother, but aren't ready to "take the next step."
Yellow - You're "enamored." You could say dating, going steady, boyfriend and girlfriend, whatever.
Pink/Red - You're in love. This is the last step, in which you can get married to her.
In Harvest Moon their are five eligible girls that your farmer can marry. They are:
Karen is a nice girl to have, but she has quite a temper though. Unlike the other four girls, she has two distractions. She lives and works at the vineyard with her parents. She also works at the town bar. Not only will she marry Kai if you don't take her, but if she is not on good terms with you, she will leave the town and the game FOREVER. You will notice this when she starts talking back to her father and also stomps off mad quite a few times. This can all be avoided if you befriend Kai and Karen's father. Give them all what they all like; Very Berries and Wild Grapes. Kai will also run off, maybe both around the same time if you are not nice to him. I, Tym, personally like her best and married her on both my 64 and PSX games. If you want to go after Karen you can usually find her in a few different places. During the day she is usually near her home or in the carpenter's area of the woods. The night is usually better to find her though. She works at the bar Monday through Saturdays. She is normally there, emphasis on normally. On Sundays, she is usually at the beach. This is weather pending. If it's raining she will normally find shelter in a place where you can't find her. As I said earlier she likes berries. This means that you can find her stuff really cheap. When you get her stuff, make sure to get more than one, and with the exception of giving Kai and Karen's father one about twice a week, put one in your fridge if you have one. If you marry her she will crate up the chicken eggs, but sometimes she says she broke one, even though this means she broke them all. Other then this, she is basically one of the easier-to-get wives.
Popuri loves flowers. She likes the ones in the forest, but for better, faster results, grow your own. She will admire them if they come from your farm. She is mostly found in the carpenter's area of the forest and also in her parent's flower shop. If you don't marry her, she will marry Gray. There isn't much else to say besides grow and save (in your cabinet) flowers for fast results with this lovely lady. Along with a daily chat she should go to red pretty quickly. If you marry her, she will water some of your plants on some days. She's somewhat hard to get. If you want some humor about her, I think she is high on something, I mean she walks around watering the concrete in front of her parents store. What is she trying to grow? Some more concrete, perhaps? Who knows?
Ann acts like a Tomboy. She is nice and a fan of nature and animals. Be nice to her by giving her corn and wool (pref. high quality). Showing her wild animals or your dog will also get a happy reaction from her. Try not to get bugs for her; popular belief is that she likes getting animals from the forest. This is completely false (she actually really hates it and if you do it enough times, her heart rating will go DOWN), with one exception; that she is also in the woods when you give it to her. She's okay with that, then. Make sure the animal is from the same section of the woods as well. You will find her on various parts of her father's ranch, the Green Ranch, where she lives and works with her father and brother, like in the barn, in the field, or in the shop with her dad. She will also be found around the forest. If you marry her she will take care of your animals like feeding your cows, sheep and your chickens. If you don't marry her, Cliff will, that is if he is still there. If you choose some one else and Cliff left, she will be alone forever. Try to keep her happy by being nice to Cliff. Things with them may start out rough, but they will end up loving each other. She's almost as easy to get as Karen, but it takes quite some more time, and you have to be really good friends with her. In Harvest Moon BTN, Marryl gives her two flowers every day, and I mean EVERY DAY, and he talks with Elli and Karen like every other day, and doesn't give them anything. So why is it they keep up just as fast? Is it hardest to win her or something? By the way, Ann likes corn and your dog, and she absolutely LOVES wool, especially the high quality wool. This might be another reason why it is harder to woo her, as these are some of the most expensive items, and can only be gotten weekly unless you have more than one sheep.
Elli seems to be a model wife. Always with a perfect dress on and a smile on her face she seems to make the farming idea seem more realistic. Though she may seem easy to get, she really is not. Apparently parentless, she lives with the baker. If you want to go after her, she likes eggs and milk. If you don't really get your animals producing these, you might have to go get her other favorite thing. This is cake. As you might have noticed, cake is expensive, even more so if you give her one daily. This will damage your wallet if you don't have the money, but do wonders for you cake card. If you talk to her grandmother on a festival day she will die. This will make Elli upset for a while. It will take a month or two for her to recover. This may give you an opportunity to take advantage of a bad situation by being nice to her in her time of need. She will like you a lot for this. If you don't marry her, Jeff the baker will. If you marry Elli, she will crate up the eggs, and she does not drop them like Karen does. She is one of the harder wives to get.
Maria/Mary: Watch out for her name. In the 64 version she is Maria and the daughter of the Mayor. In Harvest Moon BTN, she is Mary and not the mayor's daughter. Maria is a bookworm; she spends all her time at the library and when she is not there she is usually with her father. She seems too nervous to go out and do anything. She loves bugs and also loves to go hunt for them. No one I currently know married her for a purpose, which makes her the least favorite of most. If you don't marry her she will marry the postman Harris. To be honest, this seems like the perfect match, don't you think ^_^? If you want to go after her, she loves cabbage, and you want to keep it handy. You can also take the risk of wasting your day running after bugs just to show her. If you do catch one try to show it to her more then once so that she may see it as more the one gift. I forget what she does around the farm but I believe its good. She is also a medium wife to get.
Birthdays:
In Harvest Moon (64) six people have birthdays. They are as follows:
You - ???? 25 (you choose season)
Karen - Winter 29
Popuri - Spring 15/22 (not sure)
Maria - Winter 11
Ann - Summer 14
Elli - Fall 1
Take advantage of these days because they will react the most to their birthday and the fact that you knew when it was. If you want to give them a special gift, you can go get the map from the tree on your farm. Then dig 10 times with your hoe in the spot where the dog house and tree intersect. Give this old box to Rick and he will fix it. Then give it to someone on their birthday. I also found that you can do this more then once. So about every week give your girl a music box and watch the heart meter soar. If you do this often you can possibly marry her in summer.
Requirements to get Married
Must have your girl in a red heart
Must have the kitchen upgrade
Must have and use the blue feather (face girl and press B)
If this has all happened you will get married approximately the Sunday after you asked (if it is Sunday it will be the next Sunday).
Having a baby: First of all, just because you are married does not mean you can stop giving her gifts. This means your should start giving her more. Otherwise, she will go down below the pink heart. Also you should always go to bed with her. Between 8pm and 9pm, she will be by the bed waiting for you to go to sleep with. Anytime before she is walking around the room, do not sleep yet. After 9pm she gives up and sleeps without you. Also, another reason may be that you don't have the baby crib. You can't have a baby if you don't have a crib. So if you want to have a baby, follow these rules!
Their are 4 stages of baby growth:
Infant - A small baby wrapped in a cloth, you can only put him in one place, his crib. You can take him places and show him to the villagers, but you have to take him back home and put him in his crib. When he is not in his crib he is in his mother's arms. This stage lasts a season. You can give him items but its is extremely hard to do so, and I believe it is a glitch.
Crawl - Your baby is dressed in a blue hooded, yellow bodied mouse costume. He can be picked up and sat anywhere in the world, and taken back home if you leave him somewhere. You can give him gifts, he loves the dog, and you have him every day, so its the best thing to use. This stage lasts about 2 seasons.
Walk - Your baby looks exactly like the one in the image above. You can no longer pick him up. All you can do is give him gifts like the dog again and talk to him. Keep in good terms with him, since he is your son. I believe this stage lasts a whole year. I have not gotten past this stage yet.
Little Farmer - *RUMOR ALERT RUMOR ALERT* Rumor has is that after 80 years your farmer will die and your child, now a little farmer will take over the farm. This is all cinematic scene and you cannot play anymore; the game is permanently over. Neither Marryl nor I have seen this; supposedly a friend of mine has seen this, but it has not been proven to one of us yet
