All of the characters in the game are there for thier own special purpose. Here is a small amount of information for each of them. Be sure to make friends with them (very good friends)!

You - This is, well, you, the main character. When you begin a new game, you have to rename him to whatever you feel like. I guess Jack is supposed to be the default name, but so far no other website or FAQ has proven this, and I don't believe it.

Horse - This isn't just ANY horse, it's YOUR horse, and when you go down to the Green Ranch to get him, you have to give him a name. Be sure to brush (and/or talk to) your horse every day so that his stamina in the horse races increases. You should buy the brush from Rick's Tool Shop. You can ride him all around your farm (but not outside), and once he grows up, he acts as a moving shipping bin.

Dog - This is YOUR dog. When you begin a new game, you have to name him something. He is only useful in 2 ways: Competing in the dog race and showing him to girls. Otherwise, he just gets in the way.

Ann - Ann lives on the Green Ranch (go south from your farm). She is one of the girls in the game who you can woo and marry eventually. She spends most of her time around the animals on the ranch, and she likes corn and wool. Her father runs the Green Ranch, and her brother, Gray, used to be a horse racer.

Gray - Gray is one of the less friendly people in Harvest Moon 64. He is Ann's brother, and is usually taking care of the animals. He used to be a horse racer before he was involved in an accident which prevented him from riding horses again. You can impress him by winning the local horse races. He also likes eggs.

Mr. Green - He is the owner of the Green Ranch, and is very good at raising animals because he knows a lot about them. He is also Ann and Gray's father.

Potion Shop Dealer - The Potion Shop Dealer is an old (but very healthy) man who owns, uhh. . .well, the Potion Shop! He has two grandchildren, Kent and Stu. He is usually inside his home making medicines from herbs he collects, and sometimes he is out looking for those herbs. His potions are very pricey, but they work better than you can imagine. He is very knowledgeable and is a good resource for many things.

Kent - Kent is the grandson of the Potion Shop Dealer. On Sundays he can be found at the local church (which also acts as a school), and he can be found in the woods sometimes as well looking for herbs for his grampa. He is very nice once you get to know him.

Stu - The Potion Shop Delaer's OTHER grandson, Stu is a 7 year old who likes flowers. He is also helping his grampa look for herbs sometimes, and can also be found in the church with Kent.

Midwife - The Midwife is a very old, and very wise lady who lives in a small shack in the lower section of town. She knows a lot about life as she's been around for. . .well. . .certainly longer than you! She likes eggplants (what more is there to say about that?). When the time comes, she will come at you house to help your wife give birth to a baby eventually (provided you dont become a miser and never get married ^_~).

Mayor - The Mayor is. . .well, the mayor! He lives in a mansion in the lower section of town, and he hosts many of the festivals around the town. He will sometimes show up at your house to remind you of a special occasion. He has a wife and a daughter named Maria, and is seen walking through town a lot.

Mayor's wife - The Mayor's wife doesn't talk very much, and isn't much in conversation. She sells tickets at the horse and dog races. There isn't anything eles to say. . .

Maria - Maria is the daughter of the Mayor and works at the library. She likes being kept company at the library (as well as insects), and she can be found either in the library or in the woods (looking for insects, of course). She is also an eligible wife.

Rick - Rick owns the Inventor's Shop, and, you guessed it, is the inventor of the town! You can buy many VERY useful things from him, like a brush and milker, but once he runs out, he's pretty much empty for good. He's a pretty kewl person once you get to know him. He is also Ann's cousin. He likes presents of Rare Metals (those are worth 1000G!!).

Sabara - Sabara is the owner of the Artisan's shop, and (duh) is the town artisan. He makes some things like an Ocarina and a flower pot, and isn't very good company. He is usually either in his shop or up on Moon Mountain. He likes edible herbs and blue rocks.

Baker - The baker is the. . .do I really have to say he owns the bakery? He's a nice person, and he likes tea. He's more than happy to sell you cake, pies, tea, cookies, ect. He looks after Elli since her parents are dead.

Elli - Elli lives the the local bakery with her grandmother and the bakery owner (because her parents are deceased). She is a very good cook, and likes milk and eggs best. She is also one of the 5 women you can choose to be your wife.

Elli's grandmother - Elli's grandmother is. . .oh, you know. . .Elli's grandmother! She hangs around the bakery in her rocking chair all day, but she knows a lot. Eventually in the game, Elli's grandmother will die. To avoid this, never talk to her. I am not sure if she can die anytime before year 3 summer 1st.

Lillia - Lillia is the owner of the Florist Lillia, that magical shop that sells you seeds. She and her husband Basil have a daughter named Popuri. Lillia likes Tomatoes, and she is very nice when you get to know her.

Basil - Basil is father to Popuri, and husband to Lillia. He is constantly off traveling. He is very big on plants, and he likes corn. If you ever need to know anything about vegetables, he's your man.

Popuri - Popuri lives at the Florist Lillia with her parents, and helps to water crops inside the Florist shop's greenhouse. She is very fond of flowers (hence her name, given to her by Basil), and loves getting them as presents. Also, she is one of the women whom you can woo and marry. Uhh. . .well, that's Popuri in a nutshell (or is it flower pot?)!

Pastor Brown - The Pastor is the kind pastor of the church. He teaches the smaller kids of the town, and he provides weddings and funerals. He likes tomatoes.

Duke - Duke is the bartender at the bar. He's a pretty kewl guy, and he knows a lot too. He is one of the least known about characters.

Karen - Karen is another one of the girls whom you can choose to marry (by far the one most people choose as best). She lives on the vineyard with her parents, and is constantly arguing with her father. She likes Veryberries, Grapes, and Strawberries. When you first meet her, she will be a bit nasty to you, but she's very kewl once you get to know her.

Karen's father - Karen's father is more of a grouch than most people, but once you befriend him, he's actually pretty good. He also likes grapes, veryberries, and strawberries, and he makes a lot of wine as well.

Karen's mother - Usually unhappy at most times, she sort of mopes around the vineyard asking you if you "still need something". She likes tomatoes. Never really found anything interesting about her, although she and Karen leave if you don't become very good friends with or marry Karen.

Kai - Kai works on the local vineyard, and he is pretty kewl. He also likes verrybreies, grapes and strawberries, and he moved here from the south.

Fisherman - The fisherman lives in a small tent near the mountain pond, and the first time you talk to him, he gives you a fishing rod. He likes getting fish from you, and he will share with you a few secrets to fishing if you talk to him a lot.

Entomologist - the entomologist is that wierd guy with no home that wanders around the woods looking for the butterfly with the "large. . .blue. . .swallowtail" (the Emerald Butterfly). Did I mention that he has one of those funky pairs of glasses that create a spiral effect?

Mountain carpenters - These three carpenters live in a house in the back of the woods. They make buildings for a living, and they open the mine to the public in the winter. They will be very very handy for you (because they build home extensions for you, and you need a kitchen to get married). They like mushrooms and fish, mainly.

Shipper - The shipper is the son of the Midwife, and on the first day he comes and tells you that he will come every day at 5:00 to pick up any items or anything that you have shipped. He also appears at the bar sometimes.

May - May is the little girl who is the daughter of the Shipper. She is usually found in school (church) or in the town square (or even by the Midwife's house taking care of the cats. She's pretty nice, but not very helpful.

Cliff - Cliff is a wandering person who hunts for food day by day. He can be seen in the woods, caves, and even the carpenter's house. Cliff is probably the kewlest and friendliest character in the game, but that's my opinion. Be sure to become good friends with him (that'll be hard if you go after Ann).

Harvest Sprites - The Harvest Sprites live in a small room underground in the cave under Moon Mountain. They are very nice little creatures (provided they remember how to speak English), and if you are friends enough with them, and a typhoon comes along, they will even feed your animals for you!

Restauraunt owner - The restauraunt owner is an older man who lives near the summit of Mount Moon. Ever since the bridge went out, no visitors have stopped by, so he and his wife could use the company. They own the Moon Mountain restauraunt, nothing special.

Restauraunt owner's wife - Wife of the Moon Mountain Restauraunt owner (duh), lives with him on top of Mount Moon. Nothin special here either.

Wandering Cameraman - The camera man is always wandering and is only ever really seen when the Mayor asks him to take a picture or something. This guy wanders and you never see him in the wilderness, or any place where you can give him gifts for that matter.

Wandering Salesman - The wandering salesman is wandering around your town selling cheap things for expensive prices, and claiming they are other than what they actually are (super chicken feed, nectar fruit seeds, ect.). The only things that he does in the game that are of any worth is steal the Mayor's money (return it to make Maria happy), and selling you a Power Nut for a whopping 1000G.

"Festival Girls" - These three girls only show up during the horse race and dog race. It seems like they could be from another town, but then again, for all we know they could be prostitutes harbored by the Mayor! Oh, and they also show up at your house if you plant enough flowers (I planted 5 Moon Drops and 5 Pink Cat Mints).

"Rich Couple" - Well, they are old, and look rich. They also show up only on the horse and dog races. Just there to bet, I guess. But I'm 10x r
