Whether you think it or not, there are a lot more game areas than you think. We don't have a map, and are not about to make one, but we will name and explore all the different areas in the game here.
Living Room - Ahhh, the nice, comfy, living room! A place to kick back and watch the tube, write in your diary, go to bed, even re-arrange your tools and belongings. Today's highlights? Well, there's the weather, the news, farming tips, and.....well, let's not spoil it all for you! Your tool chest can hold 32 tools, and your cabinet can hold 32 non-edible items. There are a few tips in your diary's tool-notes section, and you have a photo album as well. You also happen to have a calendar. Why, I don't know, I never use it, but you may find it very useful. You have a one season span to plan, and you have 5 icons (cow, cake, exclamation mark, smiley face, and heart) to mark what is when.
Kitchen - Not exactly your dream kitchen, but it does make a nice addition to your home! Here, you put hings in your fridge, take them out of your fridge, eat them, or trow them away for no reason! Whatever the case, the fridge can hold 32 edible items. Your counter and waste basket are merely for decoration (unless you count it as your wife uses it), and your table isn't to useful (although when you are married, your wife will prepare a feat of goodies for you on your birthday). You have a Power Berry chart, with the names and descriptions of the power berries you have collected so far, and you have a recipe book, with all of the recipies so far. No, you can't actually use recipies except for collecting them and getting a better "score" at the end of the game by the judge.
Bathroom - This cozy place is very helpful if you have the right stuff. You can relieve yourself of those terrible, terrible accidents with a toilet in the back, and there is a hot tub in here also (no, the hot tub DOES NOT refill your energy, it helps prevent you from getting sick, but if you get some soap flakes, you can also get your energy back as well). The sink serves no real purpose, but is in just the right spot for admiring your looks in the mirror.
Stable/Barn - While your stable can't be entered, your barn can, and you can also bring (push) your animals inside/outside of it. Inside your barn are 8 stalls for feeding your cows and sheep. Over in the corner is a shipping bin to place your milk and wool, and there is a fodder bin for getting food for them. In the top-right corner is the "birthing place", where pregnant cows and sheep hang out for 21 days before they have a baby. Be sure to keep your animals happy!
Chicken Coop - The chicken coop is located to the right (west) of your barn. inside, you'll find that there are 6 chicken feed stalls to feed your chickens (oh, by the way, you DON'T have to feed chicks. Since they won't die, lay eggs, or do anything besides sit there and grow, there is no sense. Besides, they can't eat that much, and it wastes your feed). There is an incubator for laying eggs (called an "egg-laying place", hehe) in the topright corner, and a shipping bin for your eggs in the bottom left corner. Sorry, but you can't push your chickens out the door, you have to carry them out one by one.
Greenhouse - Your greenhouse is located south of your house, and while it may not appear big on the outside, it's HUGE! Once you have one, there is no real sense in growing crops outside, because in the greehouse, time doesn't pass, while outside it does. In addition to taking the time to water them, you have to carry grown crops to the shipping bin. No time at all for the greenhouse! Inside, there are 16 squares of land you can use. I've gotten to the point where I can't grow much more in the greenhouse (think it's hard? Well, not if you've already grown 10 packs of eggplants OUTSIDE....). There is a water bin in the corner for your watering can, and a shipping bin by the door for your crops. This baby is a must for anyone.
Other - Outside on your farm is a very beautiful scene, but it can be very disturbing and frustrating at times. You have a 24 by 20 field for planting things, as well as a tree in the back. Near the tree is a pond with water in it, for filling your watering can. You can also build a deck behind your house, but it doesn't do anything (but it's great for the end of the year). Over by your farm's entrance is a mailbox, and you will recieve mail often, sometimes a few per day. Luckily, hahah, no bills! In front of your house is your doghouse, with it's neat little bowl. No, you can't per or talk to or brush your dog, but you should at least feed him (I never won the dog race because I never knew you have to feed him.........). There is also a shipping bin over in the corner. Now, between the barn and chicken coop is your silo, for holding fodder. When you cut grown grass with your sickle, it automatically gets transported here. Last but definately not least, is a lumber pile over on the side of your chicken coop. This (and the silo) can hold up to 999 material.
Gray's House - Gray's house isn't much but a shack like yours, with a couple things you dont have, of course (like a stove!). It's very comfortable, in fact, but I wouldn't want to live there!
Shop - Mr. Green's shop is very useful, especially later in the game. You can buy fodder for a seemingly large sum of money (you'll look back and laugh when you have your own grass fields), and you can also buy Chicken Feed, but this is more reasonable, and it's the only place you can get it. Among those, he sells you cow potions for impregnating your cows (well, sorry, but the programmers are the ones so scared that a little kid will get ideas....personally, I think they're putting more ideas into little kid's heads THIS way, don't you?). You can also buy medicine for your sick animals. There is a book on animals in the shop on a table, and you can talk to Mr. Green to find more. To buy animals, all you have to do is tell Mr. Green.
Barn - The barn isn't much use to you, unless Gray is your best bud, or you're chasing Ann. Inside is a fodder silo, 16 or so stalls, many animals, and you can find Ann or Gray in here often enough. There isn't much of a ring to this place...
Mayor's House - The Mayor's "house" is more like a mansion. Very comfortable (and expensive) and pleaseing to the eye, it stands in Downtown Flower Bud Village. There isn't much to do in there, unless you like old stoves, pictures and tables....
Midwife's house - The Midwife's house is probably like the least useful place in the game. First of all, you can find a bookcase of maternity books, and a bed. Plus a cauldron of some sort (is the Midwife really a witch in disguise? What did she do to your baby?!?!). The Midwife usually dwells inside here all day, but sometimes, she isn't there.
Potion Shop - Ahh, the Potion Shop. This place is great, you have to admit! The wise Potion Shop Dealer lives here with his 2 grandchildren, Kent and Stu, as well as thier dog, Taro. The potions that they create are great tasting (except by Stu's opinion), and they will prevent you from getting sick. There are generally three types. The weakest refills your energy by a nice amount. The next will help prevent you from getting sick (more than your hot tub), and it is a cure-all for animals as well. The last is in case of emergency, and is very pricey. But this will take your energy back to maximum from whereever it was. Either way, this place will come in handy more than enough times.
Graveyard - Among these graves are your grandpa's grave, although this is mainly an animal cemetary (what? Grandpa was a cow? Really? Wow!). There are six graves here, old of your grandpa's, 2 that you can't read, and then 3 animals. All you can do is read. No, you can't dig them up, we've tried.....and Taro can't wake them up, either......
Florist Lillia - The Florist Lillia is home to not just Popurri, Lillia and Basil, but to all the flowers and crops in the world! Here, you can buy all the crops you will need, as well as flower seeds and grass. You can get information on crops and other plants including grass just by asking Lillia or Basil. And while Popurri SEEMS to be watering the sidewalk, she's REALLY watering the moss growing in between! What? You couldn't tell? In any case, the more flowers you buy, the more points you rack up on your flower card! For every 10 points, you can get a raffle ticket for the end of the year. You can win lots of prizes, but remember you can't have more then 100 points, and BlueMist Seeds don't count.
Bakery - The Bakery is home to the Baker, Elli, and Elli's grnadmother. They're all nice folks, and they sell you all kindas of sweets and energy-revitalizing foods. Cake and Pie add points to your "cake card" for a raffle at the end of the year, as well as making great gifts! The maximum you can have on the card is 100 points, and cookies don't count. Happy eating!
Church - The kindly Pastor Brown is a pleasant guy, really, but most people tend to look him over because he's JUST a pastor, right? Well, actually, he performed your marriage, your grandfather's burial, uhhh, your marriage, and teaches the village kids Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Did I mention he is a pastor? The church itself has a statue in the back of a goddess, and it has rows of pews and an organ, plus a stove too!
Souvenir Shop - The souvenir shop is home to Sabara, a great craftsman. He will make you an ocarina by the first year's Spirit Festival. Sabara appreciates a lot, including the fact that every day is the same (hehe), and if you are nice enough to him, he will turn the red pot he made into a blue one which he will gladly sell to you. By the by, you may have heard that giving him 2 Blue Rocks will turn it blue. Well, Blue Rocks ARE his favorite, but I did it my first time throught he game with one blue rock, and the second time through with none (although it takes a LOT of cake to make up for that...). It's a better solution anyway to stick with the Blue Rocks, it'll go much much faster. Other than that, the shop boasts nothing that Sabara will let you touch.
Rick's Tool Shop - Rick's shop is by far one of the most useful places in the game. He will sell you a milker, shears, a brush, a carpet, a cabinet, when the time comes, a Blue Feather, and a few other things (including an empty bottle, we all love empty bottles, right?). If you are nice enough, he will also bring over a teleporter (which is also a bomb), which he's having trouble with.....maybe one day he will fix it. But that's for us to know and you to find out! (Same as Sabara, you DON'T have to give Rick 4 Rare Minerals, but it makes it go much, much quicker. I did it on two, plus a ton of cake.). The tool shop has, well, tools, some for sale, others not, and a box, plus the counter.
Bar - The bar is where everyone who's anyone goes at night to have a decent conversation. Duke, the bartender, it one of the nicer guys in the town, and he even warns you not to get drunk (but who doesn't get drunk, huh? Well, I don't!) You can buy from wine, liquer, beer, milk, and water. They're a bit expensive, but the more you drink, the more you can handle at New Year's eve. Yes, it IS possible to outdrink everyone at the party including the Mayor. Everyone except Gray will leave after you do that. Well, of course, excluding the shipper dude! If he went home, you could run around the Florist Lillia naked if you wanted. . .
Town Square - This is the place where most of the festivals occur. However, this is usually a barren place any normal day. There is nothing here but to try to pick the lock at the horse track, which you will not succeed at, and stare at a bench all day.
House - This is the house that Karen and her parents live in. In here are such things as a fireplace, a table and chairs, you know, the works. There is a staircase leading up to Karen's room, but you aren't allowed to enter.
Wine Cellar - The wine cellar is where all the wine is made from the grapes. The machines keep churning and churning and churning, making wine for the bar, and for the vineyard to sell. If you go down into the bottom of the wine cellar, it is possible to use the bottle and fill it up with wine. Then, you can carry it, too! It makes a great refreshment, and it's free. Plus, it also counts torward your ability to drink at the New Year's Eve party.
River Area - The River Area is the first part of the Moon Mountain Range that you will enter when you go north of your farm. In here, you will find some wild food, as well as bugs. A fisherman has a tent pitched up here in front of a spring, where he fishes a lot. And there is a river nearby. Going up the trail, there is an old tree stump. After your first year, an Entomologist is walking around searching for the Emerald Butterfly.
Carpenter Area - There is a lot of activity in here. The main part of it being the Mountain Carpenters' house. There, you will find everything you will need in home extentions. Outside, you'll see 3 stumps that can be used for lumber, as well as various luscious delectacies that mother Nature provides. There is a tree that you can climb in the back of the house, and a cave dwells nearby.
Cave Area - In the cave behind the carpenter's house, you will find a few herbs and such, as well as the entrance to a mine which is only open during winter. But don't let that be all, as there is a Harvest Sprite walking around the path, and there is a small tunnel that leads to another room that the Sprites call "home". You will find all kinds of tools, a triple decker bed, and many other things that are surprising.
Spring Area - This is where the Harvest Goddess is supposed to live. And she does! You will find many flowers and various edible things over in this area, as well as many forest creatures and a pond and bridge, as well as a stump for lumber. You can only grow the BlueMist Flower in this area, also.
Bridge Area - The bridge area is at the summit of the mountain on the left side of the river. At the top, you can find 3 stumps to cut into lumber, and a few edible foods as well. Sometimes there are insects, and once the time comes, you will help to build a bridge. Once you have done that, you can cross it to the other mountain and climb to the REAL summit.
Summit/Summit Path - The path leading up to the summit is very windy and twisted, and it really takes up your time, but in a sense it is worth it. The view is by far great, and it always seems to be very nice up there. Near the summit is the Moon Mountain Restauraunt, and the owner and his wife live there. They're an elderly couple, but friendly none the less. During Fall 10-12, the Moonberry Fruit grows in front of thier house. At the summit, you've reached a plateau 800ft above sea level. The sight is a very beautiful one, and its very barren at the top.
